harry potter and the sorcerer's stone.
Journey Beyond Your Imagination
"Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone" is the first film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's popular Harry Potter book series. Marketed as Harry Potter & the Philospher's Stone outside the United States, the film went on to break box office records and is currently the fourth-highest grossing film of all time, behind "Titanic," "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."
The film stars Daniel Radcliffe as the young orphan, Harry Potter, who after spending ten years in relative anonymity with his only Muggle relatives, the Dursleys (Richard Griffiths, Fiona Shaw, Harry Melling), discovers that he is the rich and famous wizard responsible for the downfall of the evilest force known to his kind, Lord Voldemort. Rendered powerless by baby Harry, Voldemort remains a looming threat that clouds his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry. Rupert Grint and Emma Watson co-star as his best friends, Ron Weasley, a red-haired boy from a poor, Wizarding family, and Hermione Granger, a Muggle-born know-it-all.
Harry, Ron & Hermione band together to survive the challenges presented by year one: flying lessons, potions classes with the seemingly sinister Professor Snape (Alan Rickman), dealing with school bully, Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), Quidditch, helping their large friend Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) raise a dragon, as well as solving the mystery of the Sorcerer's Stone, while learning that bravery, friendship, and love are among the most important lessons they will learn about magic and life. Richard Harris (Professor Dumbledore), Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall), and Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick) round out the Hogwarts staff.
